—————Innocence and Wisdom on the way to the 3DL
As one gets older and wiser (this is not a given), They generally tend to take things more in stride. They don’t get as caught up in the ups and down of life as they did when they were youngerer peace and tranquility amidst life’s passing storms.
Things that used to shock and surprise, don’t shock them and surprise them the same way they used to, but tend to roll off their backs more like water. They feel they have seen this kind of thing before. They’ve been through it before. They know it is temporary. This realization brings a deeper sense of inner pace and tranquility amidst life’s passing storms.
While this is a positive development, there is, however, also a big danger with the accumulation of life experience. As one gets older, and one acquires more life experience, there is a also a tendency to become more numb and desensitized to the miracle and magic of life, and cynical about its possibilities. One is weighed down by the experience of the past
Interestingly enough, the reason given is exactly the same. Because one feels what they are experiencing they have experienced before and it will be the same now as it was then. But, how do they know?
The truth is we may have had many experiences similar to this one before, but we have never had an experience exactly like this one before. The truth is whatever we are experiencing right now, we have never experienced before and we will never experience again. This is true both true both scientifically and spiritually. A flower is never the same twice, a sunset is never the same twice, nor is a river, nor is your partner, your child. or your friend.
With this realization one is awake and alive to the miracle of life. There is gratitude and appreciation for the fleeting beauty of thing as they are right now.
Herein lies the wisdom of non-attachment through embracing the unknown.
If every moment is new and fresh, then we come to the astonishing realization we really don’t know what is going to happen next. Realizing this truth, we can approach life open-minded and open-hearted knowing that anything is possible at at any moment. Life becomes deeply exciting and radiantly alive.
Realizing this truth wakes us up to the miracle of this moment, pregnant with unlimited possibility. Realizing this truth we pay closer to attention to this moment, the small miraculous details.
We are more responsive, creative, open-minded and open-hearted, because we realize something amazing: What we are seeing now we’ve never seen before.
What you are experiencing right now is new and unique in all of the universe. This realization means it is also temporary and fleeting. Whether it is painful, sad, happy, joyful, erotic, funny, scary, serious, silly etc, embrace it and allow it to pass through so something new and fresh will enter.
I remember once, years ago, I went to see a dentist because I was having trouble with my jaw. He did not prescribe any drugs or medicine. He did not prescribe any treatment, he did not prescribe any surgery. He looked at me, he looked at my jaw, and he said four words: which stuck in my mind “This too shall pass”.
He was right it did. I consider that the best doctor visit I ever had. The best doctors not only heal the body, they heal the soul in the process.
‘This too shall pass’
There is a realization that all experience is temporary, passing and fleeting, while the infinite essence remains the same. Even though you may have experienced many similar situations before, you do not know what content of this next experience will be.
As the saying goes, the only constant is change.
Can you both garner the wisdom of experience to take things more in stride, while still being open to the miracle of life and it’s infinite possibility?
