Thank you all for your feedback from last week’s message. I’m really enjoying sharing with you this way. As i write you from my parents home this afternoon, in the bedroom where I grew up in the suburbs of Berks County Pennsylvania in the United States of America,
Remember when you’re a kid, your little friend comes over and knocks on your door. “You wanna play with me?”
When was the last time, as an adult, someone asked you if you wanted to play with them? When was the last time you asked someone to play with you?
How does fun and play tend to end up so low on the list of priorities as we get older? Many adults even come to view play as something negative, a form of laziness, or mindlessness. They are now too serious to contain such shallow things as happiness or joy. They have too many responsibilities
Why do so many adults spend most of their day doing things that cause them misery and pain, that are destructive to their souls, call it “work” and claim they have no time to “play”? If you ask them why, they say they “have to”.
Who is forcing them? There are many deeply imbedded, unconscious, belief systems here that are worth serious inquiry, both on an individual and societal level.
As an adult now, where is play on your list of priorities? One way to bring more play into our lives, that can be easily overlooked, is to bring the energy of play into the things we are already doing throughout the course of our day.
Bringing a greater sense of play and fun into our lives will not make us less responsible. What it will do is make us more responsible for helping to create a new world that is more filled with the energy of fun and play, of love, peace, freedom and empowerment. It will make us less and less responsible for a world that is filled with stress, anxiety, frustration, disillusionment, and boredom.
Play does not need to be another thing you need to add to your “To Do List” which is really just creating more work for yourself, but rather, as a new way of seeing the world that we already inhabit. A more playful spirit can be brought into every aspect of your life.
Play with your co-workers, play with your lover, play with your children, play with your friends, play with your enemies, play with animals, play in the water, play in trees, play in mountains and big cities, play in dark alleys in the middle of the night, play with your writing like I do.
Where is fun and play on your list priorities?
Do you hear something? Listen close… I am knocking on your door. I am asking you if you want to come out and play.
The best is yet ahead….
With love, light, freedom, laughter, infinite gratitude and little bit of inspiration and magic
